An open door is not a policy because new teachers don’t know how to ask. I’m lucky enough to work with coaching new teachers through their induction work. Induction is what they need to do for the first two years in a classroom . It’s goal setting and its reflecting and it supporting and its remembering how exciting your first new classroom is.
New teachers have fresh ideas and energy and they want to do well. They fly in front of their classrooms and their classrooms are always beautiful. One thing I will say and work on them with is that it’s okay to ask your principal for help and you know what I tell them? The principal would rather you ask for help then for you to need help and not ask. How do I know this? I was. a principal.
So check on them. Make sure they have what they need. Monitor what you are putting on their plate. Don’t scare them. Coach them! Find them a team. Monitor your energy around them and you know what else? Snacks are okay too.
